Dirty Rotten Scoundrels follows the misadventures of two con-artists: Freddy Benson and Lawrence Jameson. Freddy is just one more hardscrabble huckster trying to make a (dis)honest living – that is, until he meets Lawrence, a high-society swindler whose polish and connections have landed him a glamorous gig on the French Riviera.

When Lawrence invites Freddy to team up, it seems like the two have finally found the perfect con – until they realize that their egos are the only thing more massive than their earnings. Friction turns to an outright feud when the perfect target arrives in town – Christine, an heiress who is just as beautiful as she is gullible. Who will be the first to steal Christine’s heart and, more importantly, her wallet? Grab a sunhat and a cold drink for a musical that will keep you grinning and guessing from start to finish.

Academy Award winning composer Rachel Portman’s “The Little Prince”, based on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s Le petit Prince, is an imaginative and melodic setting of the unlikely bond of a Little Prince from a neighboring Asteroid and a Pilot whose plane has crash-landed in the desert. The opera highlights in a fantastical way what the true meaning of life is by introducing a plethora of characters whose vices disappoint the young Prince. Power, vanity, addiction, workaholism – they all distract from seeing truly with one’s heart, not one’s eyes. An opera for all ages, the lessons of love, loss, laughter, and healing through letting go are embraced through a sonorous score and with vivid characters who aid both the Prince and the Pilot in discovering the profound truth in friendship and love.

Collage New Music performs recent works by Peter Child. The program includes two chamber works premiered in the last two years: Turning Point, commissioned to celebrate Collage’s 50th anniversary, and Six Dances of Death, reimagined compositions by Henry VIII inspired by woodcuts by Holbein the Younger. At the center of the program is the premiere of a new song cycle for soprano and piano, A Golden Apple, which sets recent works by six women poets that explore themes of intimacy and loss. We present this concert on the occasion of Peter Child’s retirement from MIT after 37 years of teaching. Please join us for a post-concert reception celebrating Peter's years of service to MIT Music.

Boston premieres of works for multiple clarinets by three seminal American composers, Terry Riley, Philip Glass, and Louis B. Hardin (aka Moondog). Plus Ziporyn’s own multi-clarinet arrangements from his 2022 album Pop Channel. Terry Riley’s Ki (2023) was written especially for Ziporyn, while Philip Glass Best Out of Three (1968), had been unperformed for over 50 years until Ziporyn realized it from manuscripts found in the composer’s archive.

Liebesbotschaft means “Message of Love”, which is a perfect description of Franz Schubert’s music. There are songs of nature, songs of longing and loss, songs of death and spirits, songs of love and hope…all Liebesbotschaften from the composer who brought about the Romantic Period in music. Schubert composed more than six hundred songs as well as seven complete symphonies, several operas, incidental music, and a huge body of piano and chamber music before early death at the age of 31.
